About Us

Isabelle Davis

I am an experienced researcher and aspiring librarian. I have a unique realm of specialized experience-- from special collections in the arts and culture to governmental policy to the medical and scientific research. Currently, I am attending UCLA to receive my Masters in Library and Information Studies. This program has allowed me to expand on my own research interests, especially as they pertain to health, technology, collection development, and surveillance.

For this project, I assisted in the interview with Gisele, taking notes and creating the questions for our experts. I also completed the research and writing for the copy on this website.

Talor Wald

I am an aspiring academic librarian, currently earning my Master of Library and Information Studies degree at UCLA. I am pursuing academic librarianship because I find partnering with, and learning alongside, motivated students to be incredibly rewarding. I discovered my calling to foster young people’s pursuit of their interests through founding and managing San Francisco’s first Youth Transportation Advisory Board (YTAB). Over three years, I partnered with over fifty youth participants to translate their passions into pathways for personal growth, professional development, creative expression, and community advocacy. Today, I am interested in developing means for academic libraries to engage students through not only their academic, but also their recreational interests.

For this project, I coordinated, lead, and supported note-taking for our interview with Gisele. I also contributed to researching and writing the copy for  this website.

Kady Drorbaugh

Passionate and motivated academic, currently pursuing a dual degree Masters in Library and Information Science and Latin American Studies. I  have spent the past three years immersing myself in Spanish as a student and educator. I have received several honors in this pursuit, including the Bard Spanish Department Senior Project Award. My skills include organization, written and verbal communication, presenting, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, research synthesis, most social media platforms, Spanish (C1 Level), and knowledge organization.

For this project, my contributions principally focused on the interview process and building the dossier content that would be transferred to our website. I participated in both interviews, taking detailed notes of the responses of each librarian and organizing the information into categories that corresponded to what the dossier was looking at. Furthermore, I did ample research on the labor trends for our profession, with statistics that looked at librarians generally as well as that of academic librarians specifically. In this research was where I discovered that our profession is recovering from a decline in job opportunities as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. In addition to this, I also investigated helpful resources to incorporate into our understanding of the profession. It was in this research that I discovered several research guides, articles, and books that were created by academic librarians for academic librarians in order to best prepare and help those in our field. There are a number of helpful frameworks that have been devised with best practices for academic librarians, both those aspiring to do this as a career and those who are well-established in the profession. The wealth of information and resources surrounding information professionals is helpful and also characteristic of our field.

Alicia Mara

I have over nine years of experience in digital media, marketing, and project management. Throughout my career, I have worked in both corporate and non-profit sectors with a specialized focus on refugee resettlement, Corporate Social Responsibility, and advancing human rights through Living Wage initiatives. I am currently enrolled at UCLA pursuing a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree. I am passionate about exploring the intersection of digital humanities and archival practices to understand better how we archive, represent, and remember history.

For this project, I organized the sending and completion of our interviewee “Permission to Record forms.” I participated in an interview and recorded it. I added chapter headers to our video recordings on FCP and uploaded them to YouTube for visibility. I focused on technical aspects and their execution, like this website I created. I built the site and input the copy and research my classmates did and arranged it across different webpages and incorporated creative ways of display. I secured a domain name for the website, connected it, and did all the interconnecting of the webpage to make sure all the links go to the correct places. I sourced all images, including for the professional associations and other resources mentioned.
